One of the many reasons I enjoy model railroading. Growing up in New York, I spent a good
deal of time riding the subway.  This is a fantastic rare close up view of an IRT transit car
manufactured by the Budd Company in Canada, ready for the motorman to climb aboard
and take his place in the control cab.

CMRC's - July 2010 Photo Of The Month:
Submitted By Steve Manuel

Special thanks to Steve Manuel for sending in this wonderful picture
of the Otter Creek Train Depot.

"This is the Atlantic Coast Line railroad depot at Otter Creek, Florida. This picture was taken around 1954-55, I've searched for years for it. The depot was closed for remodeling. The railroad removed the warehouse and open freight dock. In the end it was office only for western union and train orders.  The tracks were very well maintained as this was part of the Coast Line's Perry Cut-Off mainline, Thomasville to Dunnellon. At the time of this picture six regularly scheduled trains ran through Otter Creek, a north and southbound local, north and southbound passenger train the Southland #32 / #33 and a north and southbound through freight, the Blue Goose #236 and 237. In addition every six days a 40 car log train from south Florida carried cypress logs to the big mills at Perry. During this same time, frequent circus trains, troop trains, football specials, and extras could be found on the Cut-Off. It was a single track mainline and dark territory, I can almost hear the telegraphs now. Speed limit was 59 mph but the Southland was frequently clocked along US 19 at 70 or more. There were long stretches of straight and level track from Dunnellon to Perry and on to Thomasville."

Special Club Dinner Event:
Club members and their wives gathered for dinner at Dominick's Italian Steak House in Homosassa Tuesday March 16th 2010.  There was plenty of good food, some great stories and a few jokes you could repeat in mixed company.  More of these types of events are being planned, so come and join us the next time!
